Two of the most popular Afghan carpets are Khal Mohammadi / Gl.Afghan and Afghan Aqche. Both Turkmenistan in the north, and Afghanistan in the south, inhabited largely by nomadic tribes. Kabul, Afghanistan's hovadstad and Herat city are important assembly sites for Afghan carpets. A feature of these rugs is the fiery red deep heat colored background, the relatively high power nap, grundvæv in wool, the use of goat and horse hair, promissory in Sennehknuden and use of elephant foot patterns.
Gl.Afghan hand-knotted of Turkmenians in northern Afghanistan. Red in a broad range of warm tones from rust to brown to copper, the bottom color. The pattern is very dark blue, almost black, ocher and ivory white.
Afghan Aqcheh linked by Turkmenians in central and northern Afghanistan. The simple patterns are composed of elefantfod / octagon and stylized geometric patterns.
