Kelardasht

Kelardasht rugs are known from many Renaissance paintings and otherwise quite rare because the families who between them have enshrined a unique behavior for the Muslim world, namely that women allowed to keep the house carpets, whose husband repudiates her. Kelardasht is a city which lies south of the Caspian Sea in the northwestern Iran. The town lies on the road between Karadje and Chalus, at the foot of Kelarbjerget around the town of Hassan, Kif.

Pattern and motives of Kelardasht carpets are usually characterized by one or more hexagons in the middle field. Hexagon is also often framed by white zigzag lines with a Skarabæe in middle. Midfield and the border is richly decorated with bright stylized, quite primitive motifs, flowers and animals. As background color used almost always brick-red.
